We have had two Westies. Susie joined our family in 1991 and lived to be almost 18. Makenzie joined our family in 2011 and she is now nine and going strong! This is a wonderful breed for families; so playful and loving. Terriers can be strong-willed, so it is important to let them know you are boss from the beginning. If you do that, you will have a devoted and precious family member for life. Westies forever!!!

On May 26th my 16 year old Westie passed. He was the best dog ever. So anxious to make their owner happythis breed. Bright alert & so entertaining. They can be stubborn when it comes to training. They get it. They are just stubborn. My dogs siblings were just like him. Such a lovable breed. They are very loyal. Grooming a pain especially for the dog but necessary. And often. Playful but can be naughty with kids. Westies don’t swim. Their legs are too short. Loves mud puddles. I think that is a white dog thing. I hope to get another soon. I miss my Westie & I cannot imagine not owning one.

West Highland Terriers are one of the most beautiful dog breeds. They are energetic and need lots of attention. I had a west highland terrier myself about 2 years ago. This type of dog needs lots of attention, but they also like to be alone. They are independent. If you are looking for a lap dog, this dog is definitely not what you want. If you are looking for a dog to workout with, this is the dog you need. They can be stubborn, but it's all out of love. They are undeniably adorable. If you thinking about buying a Westie, buy it, but be aware of what you are buying. 5/5 recommended.

My Westie is 8 years old. He is about 22 pounds and 12 inches tall. He is very loving and full of energy. We have 2 cats who lived here first; one he thinks is his and the other is the Queen. He's never off leash when outside bec he loves to chase anything. He has problems with skin allergies and ear infections so the vet is a constant. He also gets groomed once every 6 weeks. Very very smart!

I had a Westie for almost 16 years, I just loved her so much. It was so heartbreaking when we had to have her put to sleep. She had developed bladder cancer at about 14 years old, so I slept with her for 2 years on a love seat recliner and she was fine, I slept with her there in case she had to go out to potty during the night. Didn't want her to go in the house and I could get her outside quicker. Finally she started to get pain, and we took her to the vets would never let her suffer in pain. That was about 3 years ago. I have been dying to have another one since but had 2 foot surgeries, so had to wait.Looking forward to getting another one. My 2nd foot surgery will be healed in a couple weeks and I can hardly wait to get another one. I would like another female but would never consider breeding her. Carole Gotwalt, it also depends on your prices for one, my husband just passed away in March. It would be such good company for me!!!

I owned two - both males! Awesome dogs :) I miss them both terribly. My first was Buttons. He was just amazing :) He passed a little over 10 years ago. My most recent Westie was Champ. He passed about 2 weeks ago. I miss him so very, very much :( These dogs are great. They have a fabulous personality and are trained fairly easy. I used to groom mine every 6-8 weeks. The breed is great with kids and they are perfect for people with allergies. They hardly shed :)
