Siberian Huskies are not for first time dog owners, if you are, be prepared for all things that can happen. The husky with appreciate and love an active lifestyle with space to run, play and do all things dogs love. Its considerably better if the husky has another dog in the house, as they are a pack breed. They are very social and enjoy to be around others. Prey drive is high, loves digging, and likes to get into mischief at times. Training this breed takes considerably more time, and patience. Positive reinforcement and heavy treat training is best for this breed. Huskies are very social, and adapt to social responses. Very Loving, and loves to be around their owner/alpha as a pack leader. Do not get Husky if you are rarely home, and cannot give them the attention they need.

This dog, the Siberian husky will be the fifth that I’ve owned my life and I’m 52. I just lost my last a little bit over a year ago and I need another Dog. I am looking for A female With blue eyes. I don’t really care about her registration for AKC as she’s going to be my companion on 20 acres. I’m here year-round. My brother is also here and he has had a husky as well so we’re very used to handling our dogs and teaching them what not to do. They are stubborn breed though. I would take a dog tomorrow if I could find one

Loving, playful, stubborn, independent. Shedding level: HIGH!!!! Don't get one unless you are fully committed to high exercise daily. Magicians...caution they are the Houdini's of the dog world. They don't live long enough. They steal your heart immediately!

"Pup" was her nickname. She was the best dog I ever owned. The day we put her down, we were "brave"; not one of us she'd a tear until we went to bed that night... then one of us sniffled and with that we let loose the torrents. We cried until dawn. She made coffee I went out for pastries. We didn't enjoy them because "Pup" wasn't there to put on a show and "talk" us into giving her a taste as she always had. A few years later my wife passed also... this time I wasn't "brave". I buried her with Pup's ashes. Huskies and my wife ruled the day. Both had antics that I miss dearly.

We have had huskies over the past 35 years. They are a special loving breed that do squire a lot if they are loving and affectionate however be prepared to give them plenty of exercise. We walk ours twice/day for several miles they are also known to run so must be leased at all times. Very high energy but with those s walk they are very calm in the house. Even in a fenced in yard they WILL find a way out. They also have in their genetic to pull but with some time and patience they can walk right along with you. Talk about pulling we spend many enjoyable winter hours with them pulling a dog sled. Huskies love attention and love to communicate through their talking. Last requirement I would say is better like to run your vacuum daily and BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH. Believe me it’s is definitely worth all the above to have a Siberian Husky to be part of your family.

While I agree with many of Greenfield's Siberian traits and abililities, I beg to difer on Trainabilty, Adaptability and Pet/Kid Friendly.. I found my rescue Siberian to be a fast study, mastering the basic audible commands instantly, most adaptabl and extremely kid and pet friendly. Most everyresident in my neighborhood fell in love with her after she rescued a toddler trying to crawl across our street. She ran out into the street, picked up the child by the diaper and carried it up onto the parents lawn and sat beside her, waited and howled until someone came out of the house to assist the child. She never needed to be leashed unless required by law or community. She was allowed to patrol the neighborhood with every ones blessing. She was able to communicate on a level I had never before witnessed. She would come up to me and take my hand in her mouth so I followed as she lead me outside to find the injured oppossum under the clothesline. The kids named her "Laska". While Laska enjoyed her freedom to roam she was a target for dognappers. Three times kidnapped and twice I was able to locate her by her constant howling. Her howl was distinct, I knew it well. Following her voice I located and recovered her twice. The third kidnap attempt was successful. I could hear her day and night. I searched for weeks to no avail.

I have 3 huskys , Brody 6 , Cooper 5 , Daisy 4 . Each has their on personality, about the only thing they have in common is , shedding, chases rabbits and squirrels and lots of energy, Training a husky is a little more involved than training most dogs unless it has something to do with running. I have trained my Huskys to run beside me while I bike ride. Of course they are leashed and I had to work with them not to pull. They are excellent runners , we do 5-10 miles everyday. We never miss a day. The dogs line up 3 abreast on my left side. In warm weather we split up how much we run , 2 miles early morning, 2-3 miles late in the day. My dogs have never brought me down while biking . My Huskys are the best dogs in my life. I’m pushing 70 years old and these dogs push me to get up and get moving everyday of my life. Running my Huskys everyday gives them a big calm through out the day. Very calm in my home. Brody and Daisy are very gentle with kids , other people and other dogs. Cooper s very dominate with other dogs and does not like to be hugged by children. Not aggressive but I can tell he does not like it. As for me I can do what ever I need to do with cooper and he is very ok with it. The shedding is year round , it never stops. Do NOT get a Husky if your not willing to get them some exercise everyday , at least a hour or more and be prepared to run your vacuum a couple times a day. But with that said my Huskys and me have made a real connection with each other.

I know everyone thinks they are beautiful and wants one; however if you are not fully committed and work or play long hours, this is not the breed for you. My husky is 8 years old, he is the love of my life. As a puppy, he ate my chair, dug up all my plants and put them in the living room and unstuffed all my pillows while chewing on my bannister. We taught him to sit, shake, stay and lay down in one day. He is very intelligent and I'm not sure he knows he is a dog? Very loveable breed, friendly but does not like to be left alone, so owning one is a big commitment. Luckily my husky does not escape or howl and rarely barks. When he is being stubborn, I close the door and wait 5 minutes and he either barks 1x at me or is waiting when I open the door. I rarely ever leave him alone, he's been on a airplane and went to the grocery store. He is the most behaved dog as long as he is not alone and shown lots of love.....

I have 2 Sibes. Both females. They are Sisters from the same breeder, Ariel is 4 years old & Czarina will me 2 years old in April. They are so beautiful but not for the "Faint at Heart!" They are for "Younger & Braver" owners. They RUN, they HUNT, they DIG, they ESCAPE for days on end & come back home to rest until the next ESCAPADE. I will be 72 in September & had "NO IDEA" I was signing up for this kind of CRAZINESS! I'm a previous "Sheltie Mom!" They were a handful but "NO COMPARRISON" to My "Sibe" Babies. I will love them until "I die!"

Our husky just turned a year old and she is a beautiful girl! She's full of energy and loves to play with any dog that will play along including our 2 Pomeranians and our cat! She loves to talk to our cat all day and she is a wonderful playmate to our 6 year old daughter. She cannot be left alone very long even though she has our other dogs, she is extremely pack oriented and is very happy when everyone is home. She is not a watch dog, and loves to go out on walks whenever someone is willing to take her, even the neighbors. Huskies are very sweet, loving dogs and will love you more than you will ever expect. If you are a family that leaves for long periods of time, than a husky is not the breed for you. But if you are home quite a bit during the day, and you have time to walk and play with them, then this might a good breed for you!

I have a 2 year old purebred and a 1 year old mix and they are the most wonderful pups one could wish for. I do recommend heeding all warnings about Huskies. They are escape artists, they shed like crazy year round, and are extremely high energy. Through a massive amount of personal time, energy, and training these two are tops, but if you can't dedicate your lives to them, this may not be the breed for you. Come another 3 years and I will likely be adding a third to our family :)

My Siberian Husky, Tikaani (Ty for short) died recently after just turning 11 years old. I have had a number of dogs, including black labs and a golden retriever, and my Husky was the most well behaved and friendly dog I ever had. He certainly had plenty of energy and got loose a number of times as a young dog, but he always returned.

You not find a more intelligent and loyal dog out there. We have owned 2 they are very family oriented, meaning whatever you\'re doing a sibe wants to be doing it with you. Also full of energy, especially in the winter months. Owning a Siberian husky takes patience but the reward is great.

Know your breed. 3rd Husky in my lifetime and just love the energy. They are very friendly and not a watch dog. This breed is stubborn and can be a handful for inexperienced owners. I know how to train Huskies and know what they are capable of. My pup is smart, understands many commands. Taking for training and trainer told me I will have issues with him. He likes to talk back, but follows the command. New trick is when I am walking or running, he increases speed and jumps and puts his paws on my lower back. This gets lots of laughs from people. Expect a lot of normal shedding outside of blowing out its coat yearly or twice yearly depending on climates. I currently use a furminator every day and it removes a lot of hair. Male Huskies may suffer from monorchism. Please wait before considering neutering for this reason. It can take up to 7 months for them to fall into place. It is an overall loveable breed that will be a great family member.

Amazing breed! Very intelligent, but very stubborn too. If you want this breed you have to be fully dedicated. Usally not recommended for first time dog owners. This breed is very entergetic and is a great family dog if you take the time to train it right.
