Scottish Terrier Breed Review by Mary Jennings
Over the last 27 years I have owned 5 Scotties. I love the breed. They are very alert and affectionate, but can be very independent minded and obstinate, especially when they are outside and have their eyes glued to a squirrel, cat, rabbit, or any other enticing critter. They are quick to learn, but just as quick to forget their training if they are distracted by something irresistible. But, they are wonderful companion animals and have a very playful nature. They do require regular grooming, as they don't shed and their fur will mat without regular grooming. As has been said many times about this breed, this is a big dog in a little dog's body. Stout, sturdy, and rugged, this little dog can take care of himself.

My Milo was the best! He lived a few months short of 16 years! Loyal, funny.. he loved swimming and mountain hiking as well as a good motorcycle ride. To me Scottish Terriers are the BEST! I miss him dearly.

I have had Scotties for over 25 years. Two males and one female. I found that the males are more loving than the female. I am now on my third Scottie and my last. (I am old) I really love this breed, although they aren't for everyone. Stubborn, have a treat on hand, not always easy to train. When THEY decide to do it your way then you will know one has been somewhat successful. Good with kids and love to play with them. They will gravitate to one person, but love all their people. Not a good watch dog and some like to bark a little too much at whatever. Need lots of grooming but for some reason always look a little scruffy. I keep my Scottie groomed short (no skirt) as we live in the country and it is just too much trouble. If I was younger I would always have a Scottie in my family.

I have owned four different breeds of dogs....a mixed breed, germain shepherd, Dalmatian and now a scottie. My scottie is by far the sweetest dog I have ever owned. Affectionate, well behaved, not destructive when left home alone and easy to care for .

Love this breed, my first Scottie, Buttons lived 13 years, had to let her go terminal cancer. She was a little stubborn but was my best friend loved to go for walks and an excellent watch dog. When she was 12 years old without knowing she was sick got my 2nd one Sara and Sara is still with me. Loyal, good natured and the most gentle dog I have ever had. Sara got Cushings disease at 7 years old which is being treated she is going to be 11 years old in July. My Scottish sweetheart my biggest fear is loosing her someday. Wanted this breed since I was a little girl, have had the pleasure of having 2 of them, if I could find a local breeder in Michigan would get another one, Sara would love the company.
