I took in Dozer, an 8 week old Jack Russel Terrier back in 2008. He lived for almost 16 years. He was absolutely the best dog I could possibly hope for. Dozer was an energetic dog who not only LOVED to play. But needed to play. I say this for any would be owners. This is an involved dog that needs your attention and authority. If you want a yard ornament, go gnome shopping because Jack Russels are not for you.Having said that, with training an attention he grew up to be a fantastic family dog that looked after our children and was truly a member of the family. They are an absolute fantastic altert dog. Dozer was excellent with my kids and very patient with them. He used to sleep with them at night and help them feel safe.If you are looking for a good family dog that requires attention and training then this is it.

We got a female JRT about 14 years ago. She passed from /congestive heart failure at age 11 1/2. Madden made a lasting impression on the entire family, we still miss her. The first 2 years she had boundless energy. And she seemed to relax after her 2nd BD!! She became my cuddle buddy, bed buddy, pillow buddy and bathroom buddy--even at 3am. I would like another JRT--but we are much older now!!

I am single mom with a 9yr old son, who is alone most of time. I have nieces and nephew but they live far. I decided to get him a dog and drove 3 hours away from NYC. I was skeptical because it was from an Amish breeder. In NYC Jack Russell Terrier are about $1600.00 I did not want to pay that much. I did go see a few but Varney was the last one I decided to go see. We fell in love. Besides that he did smell like crazy but his face looked happy. My son was happy. We decided to leave with Varney. I cant denied, I did not know Jack Russell are a handful but they are playfull. So far training him is OK. I reward him when he goes on the wee wee pad. I bought a smelly spray that helps Varney know were to go. I know im not suppose to shower him more than once a week but I did twice because of the smell like cows. At the end my son is happy and im starting to have some type of love for Varney.

I just lost my Dixie a couple weeks ago at age 16. Ive had her since I was 10 and she was truly the best dog I could have asked for. If you don't have patience this breed isn't for you. They are constantly keeping you on your toes and stubborn at times, but so fun and loyal! I'm not sure she ever really outgrew the puppy stage! Just slowed down a little, but still as ornery at age 16 as she was at age 1! She was my shadow and my baby girl! She took a huge piece of my heart with her. Life isnt the same. I miss her more than anything and always will. My heart has never hurt so much. Miss her so much, I got another JRT pup from Greenfield Puppies that looks very much like her. Will probably always have a JRT.

I have a Jack Russel and she is AMAZING! A Jack Russel is a perfect breed for a family with children, they are super active, always are ready to play and they are cute. Of course puppies will play, sleep, play, sleep. So you will need to wait a couple of months if you want to play with them all the time. You need to let them outside a lot! But other than that...... GET ONE!

You need to be an active person to take care of these dogs. They love the outdoors. Jack Russells are such a fun breed of dog. They love swimming, kayaking, and hiking. Your little Buddy will keep up with what ever activity you choose. It's very hard to tire these guys out. Even after an all day hike, once they rest their paws for a bit, they are ready to keep on going. They are forever happy. All day, every day, just a happy dog.
