I had a Great Pyrenees cross with a Golden Retriever. I love love loved him . He was a very big around 31, 32 in. at the shoulders, weighed 145 pounds. Had him from a 7 week baby until his untimely death from bone cancer, Got him on Dec. 6, 2007. I did everything I could to give him an extra 1 1/2 yrs.. He lived for 8 more months. He passed just after his 8th B - Day Oct. 15/ 2014. I still miss him everyday. I would get another if I could find the perfect one

I would do anything to bring our beloved Bernard back into our lives. He died a few days ago. He was diagnosed last year with Addison’s Disease, which is related to having low cortisol. Because of the low cortisol, he couldn’t handle stress. If we were to leave on a trip, he had symptoms where he started to drool, would drag his feet when he walked (like he was just being lazy), later walked in circles, high heart and then couldn’t get up. When we came home he snapped out of it and became back to normal. He had an episode last year and spent a week at UW Madison, he was diagnosed there but had an additional issue we never figured out. He was prescribed prednisone to take daily for the rest of his life. He became healthy again to the point we felt he would be ok without medicine. We planned on giving it to him prior to any trips, or situations that may be stressful. We regret not sticking to the plan and miss him terribly. I guess this disease is called a mystery disease and can present itself in various ways. Large dogs are more prone to it. We will never regret getting Bernard and would like to find another. If you know of anyone, please let me know.

I have a Pyrador (Great Pyrenees Labrador Retrievers mix), and this is the calmest, quietest dog I’ve ever owned. We have a downtown condo city center and a home with a yard in a smaller town, and he is easy in both places, either on lead park/city walking or inside his fenced backyard. The only negative, and, granted, it’s not much if one, is he is very devoted and wants to be near us all the time. Excellent with children, very much intends to guard and take care of them.

Got my mix at 3yrs old from a shelter in a small farming town. He's the best! I have no complaints on his behavior. He doesn't even shed a lot. He's a English cream mix. So handsome and smaller for Pyrenees but bigger to most.

Our Cane had the beauty of the golden retriever and sweet, calm, of the Pyrenees. He was a three year old when we got him. He had been tied up for weeks for killing a chicken. We took him home. We had him for 11 years and miss him terribly since he died a year ago. He was the best dog we ever had.

I came to own Pyrenees / red heeler dogs because my heeler male fell in love with a Pyrenees female. They produced 9 of the most intelligent, wonderful, beautiful pups I ever encountered. They are almost human in their thought processes. Definitely more loyal! I have heard it said that pyrennees dogs are the most honest of all dogs. That's really saying something because all dogs are honest. It's the people who are dishonest. A Pyrenees/ heeler cross in protection of family /children ( not everybody's children ! His or her family's children) family pets /( his / her familys pets ) livestock ...is 2nd to none! !!! They are loyal to their last breath & absolutely the bravest dogs I have ever known! 3 of ours have died trying to protect our calves from a big cat that roams this part of the state. If you have stock/ a good fence/ and a good dog brush & some food every day. These dogs will protect you & your family & your animals to their last breath. EVERYTIME! When my big mama dog was only 8 months old. She saw 3 coyotes chasing a rabbit. This caught her eye, then these coyotes made the mistake of crossing her fence. She not only chased them. She caught them before they caught that rabbit. And She soundly whipped all 3coyotes & sent them screaming for home! With her biting them from behind to make sure they didn't forget. She did this Right in front of myself & my husband. WOW! She was just a baby! But Somewhere there is a little grey rabbit who absolutely adored that big beautiful fuzzy dog. I really miss her. I miss them all. Highly recommended breed! I'd give them all the 5-10-100-500- 1000 Star ratings I could find!Don't get these dogs & pin them up in a back yard with nothing to do. They can get aggressive. They are unbelievably strong, smart ,loyal animals. To & with & for anything they perceive their flock to be, they need a job! Someone/ some herd or flock to protect. And you will be amazed because That's when they SHINE!

I have a Great Pyrenees/Siberian Husky mix, and she's an amazing dog. About 80 lbs, absolutely beautiful, and super friendly. Zero aggression, great with kids, cats, and other dogs.Great Pyrs are known to be very stubborn, so training can take a long time. Needs a lot of exercise and stimulation, and will be destructive if bored or lonely. Likes to dig. Sheds a TON, and due to the destructiveness and penchant for digging, are fairly messy. Would probably do best in a multiple dog household, otherwise daily trips to the dog park are a necessity. That being said, they are very sweet dogs. Loves to be hugged and cuddled, friendly with literally EVERYONE, and very beautiful. If you don't mind vacuuming every day, and have the time and energy for long daily walks and trips to the dog park, this is a great dog.

Our Nikki was the most amazing dog.....he was full of love, very gentle, loved people, easy to train!! He was called the Gentle Giant. A large dog, people stopped us to admire him...he was regal looking!! He was protective of the grandsons...would lay right near them to make sure they were safe from harm!! The downside to Nikki was the bushels of dog hair everywhere---we went through vac bags like crazy--but we loved him so much we wore his fur proudly!! May 11 he passed in his sleep....he gave us almost 13 years of love and loyalty!! I can't imagine having a different breed of dog!

I have had Wally, a Pyrenees/Golden Retriver mix for almost 11 years. He is the joy of my life and of everyone he meets! Fantastic temperment, but loves to wander off to "check the invisible perimeter". Hates to be left alone, but hasn't done anything since he was a puppy to let you know. He is one of the most beloved dogs we have ever had...even since I was a child. Don't bother getting one, unless you don't mind hair and trying to keep up with grooming that coat...it's not a daily thing, but certainly a weekly thing. I can't say enough about them, they are truely great dogs!
