I am surprised and very disappointed on your description of the breed. I have had purebred and mixed chows for over 15 yrs and have NEVER had this negative rather mean temperament with any of my dogs. I'm in NC now and even the local shelter said that they don't like chows since they can't tell what they are thinking! I love the breed as they remind me of humans. Willful, often stubborn and with unique personalities like...people!!!!!! One size does not fit all but I feel they are very loving, loyal and funny beings as their personality unfolds over time. Shame on you for breeding dogs you don't adore. Chows may not fetch but they can capture your heart .

I currently own my second Chow Chow. I highly recommend socialization and obedience training as a puppy. I found both of my Chows easy to potty train and a few tricks were also easy to teach. They do have stubborn traits but we find it to be endearing. One of the things that always amazes me is how gentle they are at accepting treats. I have not had any issues with an aggressive behavior with friends or family or other dogs. We live in the country and have a large outdoor area with underground fencing. Chows seem to be good hunters as far as keeping ground hogs, raccoons, and moles out of our yard. Inside our chow is well behaved. They don't bark very much so when they do, it is a great alarm system. They do require grooming at least two or three times a week but if you start when they are little they become use to it and actually seem to enjoy the routine. The more often you groom them, the less time it takes each time.

I have only ever owed chowchows and they are loyal and will protect their people. However, if your not up for the daily grooming then this isn\'t the dog for you. The don\'t require a lot as far huge yards and extra stuff. They do great in apartments and are very loving
