Bouvier des Flandres Breed Review by Andre Begnaud
My 1st encounter w/Bouvs was in 1971. Love @1st site. We got our 1st in 1989 & have usually had a pair since. 1 of our Bouvs served as my wife's service dog, after brain surgery. He was an outstanding animal! The ONLY issue we've had was cancer. 5 developed cancer out of 8. Not a good ratio. the avg was still 8-9(2 lived to 13). You must be a firm alpha to work these guys. They look fierce but are extremely loving & family friendly. Another of my issues is the bullshit of not cropping & docking. Working dogs have more often than not have been crop/dock to differentiate from pets(& pay no taxes). This also allowed to the animal to work outdoors w/less chance of ear infection & little chance of cattle grabbing the herder by the ear/tail & causing severe damage. The disruption this would have caused w/the service dog would have made it much more difficult in traveling by plane, train, subway or cab.

I've had the pleasure of having 3 Bouviers, they are absolutely the most amazing, smart, family oriented and protective dog I've ever had. Looking forward to #4 as soon as possible.
