I have a 9 year old female Bluetick, named Ruger, that I have owned for five years. She has the sweetest personality and I can completely trust her around my daughter, who is now five years old. My daughter would crawl all over her and Ruger never once growled or snapped at her. She is great in the house, never chews anything or has an accident. She is definitely vocal when there is a vehicle coming down our gravel road or if there are coyotes nearby. She loves to go out on hunts and has more than once come back with a face full of porcupine quills and has been sprayed by a skunk twice. She will chase cats if they run from her outside, but in the house, she isn't bothered by them at all unless they get too close to her food dish, she will give them a little warning growl. She did kill one of our chickens and I took her in their pen, on a leash and if she looked at a chicken, like she was going to go after it, I jerked on the leash and told her, "No", in a firm tone. I then started petting one of the chickens with her watching, showing her they were our pets and not for her to kill. She has not touched a chicken since. One complaint is she is very obsessed with food and won't hesitate to grab something out of your hand or off the kitchen counter, if you aren't paying attetion. She will go to any lengths to get any kind of food, even after having just been fed. She has, on numerous occasions, got into our burn barrel and strewn garbage all over the place, which can be very irritating, but all in all, she is a good all around dog. I love the fact I can trust her around children and how sweet of a personality she has.

I hunted bluetick for years. I always had good luck with blueticks form getting them started or finishing out. In my opinion blueticks are the top of the heep. as for as coon dogs.
